geography
The municipality is located around six kilometers east of Montpellier , halfway between the Mediterranean and the foothills of the Cevennes . The environment consists of open, Mediterranean shrub heather formations . The area is crossed by a river called Salaison , which gave its name to the northern part of the city, and there is also a five-hectare lake.

Le Crès can also be reached via a train station (Les Mazes-le-Crès) and a bus line. Montpellier Airport is just 20 minutes away by car.
history
The first traces of human life in the local area go back to the Neolithic Age (3800 BCE).
Out of anger over the loss of 80 horses, the castle of Le Crès was destroyed by Admiral Gaspard de Coligny (1519–1572) during the Wars of Religion, and only a small street still reminds of it.
During the Ancien Régime , Le Crès formed a parish with Castelnau-le-Lez first as Castelnau-lès-Montpellier , then under Castelnau-Le Crès .
In the early nineteenth century, increasingly separated from Castelnau by a garrigue , the village grew and soon had its own priest (1830), which was followed by a local school and a cemetery.
As early as 1846 and 1849, the residents demanded that the village be elevated to an independent municipality, but this request was not fulfilled until September 30, 1872 by decree of President Adolphe Thiers , the total area of the municipality being proportional to the proportion of the population of the original Castelnau-Le Crès was sized.
Today there are 1 hotel in the village (another 14 less than 7 km away), bistros, a large event hall (Le grand Mélo), schools, including a secondary one, sports halls and three stadiums including a large arena.
