Castries is a French commune with 6,178 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Le Crès . The inhabitants are called Castriotes .
geography
Castries is about twelve kilometers east of Montpellier between Cadoule and the Aqueduc de Castries . Castries is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Drézery in the north, Sussargues in the northeast and east, Saint-Geniès-des-Morgues in the east, Saint-Brès in the southeast, Baillargues in the south and southeast, Vendargues in the south and southwest, Teyran in the west as well Guzargues in the northwest.
The Via Tolosana , a variant of the Camino de Santiago , runs through the municipality.
