The old village

Montferrier-sur-Lez is a French commune with 3720 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montpellier and the canton of Montpellier - Castelnau-le-Lez .

geography

The municipality is located in the agglomeration north of Montpellier on the right bank of the river Lez . It borders in the north on Saint-Clément-de-Rivière and Prades-le-Lez , in the east on Clapiers , in the south on Montpellier and in the west on Grabels .

history

The castle was built by a marquis before the French Revolution . Until 1935 the municipality was only called Montferrier .
