The French canton of Lunel is an electoral district in the Hérault department and in the Montpellier arrondissement . It has 50,908 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Claude Barral ( PS ) has been a representative in the General Council of the Département since 1985 .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton Lunel included the 13 municipalities of Boisseron , Lunel , Lunel-Viel , Marsillargues , Saint-Christol , Saint-Just , Saint-Nazaire-de-Pézan , Saint-Sériès , Saturargues , Saussines , Valergues , Vérargues and Villetelle . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​141.01 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 3417.
