The former canton of Castries , which existed until 2015, was located in the Hérault department , in the Montpellier arrondissement . It had 44,411 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). From 2012, Claudine Vassas-Mejri ( PS ) was the representative in the General Council of the Département .
