Location of the canton of Gignac in the Hérault department

The canton of Gignac is a French canton in the Lodève arrondissement of the Hérault department . It has 38,728 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

In the course of the redesign of the cantons in 2014/15, the number of municipalities rose from 21 to 28. The municipalities of Aniane , Argelliers , La Boissière , Montarnaud , Puéchabon , Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and Saint-Paul-et-Valmalle have been added .

Representatives in the General Council of the Département for the period 2015–2021 are Nicole Morere and Jean-François Soto, both DVG .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Gignac included the 21 municipalities of Arboras , Aumelas , Bélarga , Campagnan , Gignac , Jonquières , Lagamas , Le Pouget , Montpeyroux , Plaissan , Popian , Pouzols , Puilacher , Saint-André-de- Sangonis , Saint-Bauzille-de-la-Sylve , Saint-Guiraud , Saint-Jean-de-Fos , Saint-Pargoire , Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian , Tressan and Vendémian . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​265.81 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 3414.
