Montpeyroux ( Occitan Mont Peirós in the sense of "stony mountain") is a French commune with 1,340 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitania region . Its inhabitants are called Montpeyroussiens . Montpeyroux is 38 kilometers northwest of Montpellier .
geography
The village lies on the border of two landscapes: the foothills of the limestone region of Causse and the alluvial land of the Hérault. The ruins of "Le Castellas" (250 m) and the Baudille mountain peak (847 m) rise above the village. It is the crossing point of various north-south and east-west connections, such as B. centuries-old pilgrimage routes. The Abbey of Saint Aniane is in the vicinity. Since the Middle Ages, Montpeyroux has determined economic prosperity through its strategic and geological location.
