geography

Le Castellas ruins.

The village lies on the border of two landscapes: the foothills of the limestone region of Causse and the alluvial land of the Hérault. The ruins of "Le Castellas" (250 m) and the Baudille mountain peak (847 m) rise above the village. It is the crossing point of various north-south and east-west connections, such as B. centuries-old pilgrimage routes. The Abbey of Saint Aniane is in the vicinity. Since the Middle Ages, Montpeyroux has determined economic prosperity through its strategic and geological location. Wine is grown in the surrounding hilly landscape, the Syrah grape variety dominates the vineyards.
