Gignac ( Occitan : Ginhac ) is a French commune with 6200 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Lodève and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Gignac . The inhabitants are called Gignacois .

geography

Gignac is located on the Hérault River , which also forms the northwestern municipal boundary. The Canal de Gignac also runs through the municipality . Gignac is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Jean-de-Fos in the north, Aniane in the northeast, La Boissière in the east, Aumelas in the southeast, Saint-Bauzille-de-la-Sylve in the south, Popian and Pouzols in the southwest, and Saint-André -de-Sangonis to the west and Lagamas to the northwest.

The A750 autoroute runs through the municipality .
