Fontanès ( identical in Occitan ) is a French commune with 348 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitania region (until 2015: Languedoc-Roussillon ); it belongs to the Arrondissement of Lodève and the Canton of Lodève (until 2015: Canton Claret ). The inhabitants are called Fontanais .

Fontanès is located about 23 kilometers north-northeast of Montpellier . Fontanès is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sauteyrargues in the north, Vacquières in the north and northeast, Saint-Bauzille-de-Montmel in the east and southeast, Sainte-Croix-de-Quintillargues in the south, Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers in the southwest and Valflaunès in the Northwest.
