Saint-Privat ( Occitan Sant Privat ) is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region of France . The residents are called Privatois.
geography
The municipality of Saint-Privat is located in the north of the Hérault department in the canton of Lodève. At an altitude of 350 meters, it is nestled between the foothills of the Larzac plateau with a series of steep, rocky slopes and ledges in a landscape characterized by vineyards, olive groves and meadows.
Community structure
The parish consists of the villages of Saint-Privat , Les Salces and La Rouquette .
Saint-Privat
Just 20 years ago, the place with prehistoric traces (see Dolmen de la Bruyère d'Usclas ) was considered abandoned. Saint-Privat owes its rebirth mainly to foreign buyers, who were attracted by the idyllic location of the village. The Maro stream rises from the steep cliffs of Larzac and then flows past the foot of the village.
Les Salces
It is the largest of the three villages. The school and the town hall are located here. Shops can be found in Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière . Many springs arise on the mountain slopes. The water is used to irrigate the fields and lands through small canals.
La Rouquette
The smallest of the three villages is La Rouquette. It is located about 3 km south of Les Salces on the slope above the Vaîrousse river. As in Saint-Privat, the houses are oriented towards the rising sun.
