Le Caylar ( Occitan : Lo Cailar ) is a French commune with 445 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lodève and the canton of Lodève . The inhabitants are called Les Caylarains .

Le Caylar is bordered by La Couvertoirade to the north, Le Cros to the east, Saint-Félix-de-l'Héras to the south and Les Rives to the west .

The A75 motorway runs right past the village.

Attractions

Tree sculpture

In the 1980s, there was a major Dutch elm disease in France, which also affected the Dorfulme in Caylar. The community commissioned the artist Michel Chevray to carve a sculpture out of the dead tree. In 2000 working hours he immortalized typical elements of the Plateau de Larzac.
