Tressan is a French commune in the Hérault department in the region of Occitania . It has 659 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) on an area of 3.92 km².
geography
Tressan is located on the left bank of the Hérault , about 40 kilometers west of Montpellier and 40 kilometers northeast of Béziers on a hill and is surrounded by vineyards.
history
Tressan belonged to the Counts of Guilhem de Montpellier in the 12th century . Tressan's town center is fortified. The medieval city was used to control the trade and travel routes in the area. The valley of the Hérault was once cultivated by Benedictines ; Swampy areas were drained in order to be able to operate agriculture and viticulture.

Attractions
The core city is closely built up and fortified; it houses, among other things, the castle of the Counts of Tressan. The parish church of Saint-Geniès originally dates from the 17th century. The church tower was renewed at the end of the 19th century. The 18th century Font de Las Costes fountain will be restored until 2011.

In the area around Tressan, viticulture is still the main activity. The place itself is used for tourism.
