Velyka Bahatschka ( Ukrainian Велика Багачка ; Russian Великая Багачка Velikaja Bagatschka ) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative seat of the raion of the same name in the center of the Ukrainian Oblast Poltava with about 5700 inhabitants (2014).
geography
Velyka Bahatschka lies on the Psel , a 717 km long left tributary of the Dnieper . The Poltava oblast center can be reached via the M 03 trunk road running 10 km south of the town , a section of the E 40 in 78 km south-east. In addition to the SsT itself, the settlement council also includes the villages of Bairak , Buryakivshchyna , Butowa Dolyna , Harnokut , Dowhaliwka , Saton , Mala Reshetylivka , Pylypenky and Schepeli .
history
The village was founded in 1630 under the name Bohatschka. In 1764 the place had 372 and in 1846 2082 inhabitants. By 1910 the population grew to 3,150 people. The Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko stayed several times in Velyka Bahachka in 1845. In 1925 the place became the center of the Rajon and received its current name. Since 1959 the village has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

Welyka Bahatschka is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name, founded in 1925. The Rajon Welyka Bahatschka located in the center of Poltava , about 25,000 inhabitants and an area of 1019 km². The population density is 25 inhabitants per km².
