Horischni Plawni ( Ukrainian Горішні Плавні ; Russian Горишние Плавни Gorischnije Plawni ) is an oblast-administered city in the central Ukrainian Poltava Oblast . With 52,000 inhabitants (2016), the city is the third largest city in the oblast. It is located on the northern bank of the Dnepr, which is dammed up to the Kamjansk reservoir, east of the mouth of the Psel River and 100 km southwest of the Poltava oblast center .
The city also includes the 7 neighboring villages of Dmytriwka ( Дмитрівка ), Basaluky ( Базалуки ), Voloschyne ( Волошине ), Kyjaschky ( Кияшки ), Hora ( Гора ), Kusmenky ( КузьСо ), Kusmenky ( КузьСолонкицінzi ( КузьСо ).
history
The village was founded on January 29, 1960 and named after the Soviet youth organization Komsomol Komsomolsk (Ukrainian Комсомольськ ). It grew particularly strongly from the 1970s, as the mining of iron ore began in the area around the city. From 14,555 inhabitants in 1970 the population increased in Soviet times over 37,909 (1979) to 51,645 inhabitants (1989). On April 24, 1972 Komsomolsk received the status of an independent city , on April 6, 1977 it was detached from the area of the surrounding Kremenchuk Rajon and placed directly under the oblast administration. The population also continued to grow during the transformation crisis. Komsomolsk is the city with the highest proportion of ethnic Russians in Poltava Oblast (2001: 19.6%). Ukrainians make up 78.4% of the population. In the 2004 presidential election, contrary to the general trend, the majority of the population in Poltava Oblast voted for Viktor Yanukovych . On 19 May 2016, the site was in the course of de-communization in Ukraine in Horischni Plawni renamed, the belonging to the city area village Kolhospna Hora ( Колгоспна Гора ) already on 12 May 2016 in Hora .

Economy and Transport
The economic focus is on iron ore mining , which accounts for more than 90% of industrial production. The city has a river port and a railway branch line with the railway Kremenchug Poltava- connected. The city is located away from major thoroughfares. There is a direct road connection to Kremenchuk, about 15 km to the west, via the T – 17–1 territorial road .
