Karlivka ( Ukrainian Карлівка ; Russian Карловка Karlovka ) is a city in central Ukraine Poltava on the river bank Ortschyk . It is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name and is administratively divided into the city and the 2 settlements Iwaniwka ( Іванівка ) and Solona Balka ( Солона Балка ).

history

Karliwka was founded at the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th century. At first the place developed slowly and grew to 3,600 inhabitants by 1897. In the Soviet era , the industry was greatly expanded, so that Karliwka took a rapid boom. In 1939 the place already had 10,300 inhabitants. The growth continued even after the Second World War , so that Karliwka, which was given city status in 1957 and grew to 20,059 inhabitants by 1989. In the course of the transition crisis, however, the population fell by over 10% to 17,658 inhabitants (2003).

Economy, education and transport

Karliwka's economic focus is on mechanical engineering and the food industry . The city has a vocational school with around 650 students. The regional road R-11 runs through Karlivka , via which there is a connection to the M 03 / E 40 between Poltava and Kharkiv 20 km to the northwest . In the opposite direction, the road meets the M 18 / E 105 between Dnepropetrovsk and Kharkiv in Krasnohrad, 28 km southeast . Furthermore, Karlivka has a connection to the Poltava – Krasnohrad – Donets Basin railway .
