Kotelwa ( Ukrainian and Russian Котельва ) is an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of the raion of the same name in the east of the Ukrainian Poltava Oblast with about 12,100 inhabitants (2019).
geography
Kotelwa is located on the small tributary of the Worskla , the Kotelwa ( Котельва ) and its tributaries, the Oreschnja ( Орешня ) and the Kotelewka ( Котелевка ). The Poltava Oblast Center is 69 km south of the settlement and can be reached via the N 12 highway .
In addition to Kotelwa, the settlement council also includes the villages of Kaminne ( Камінне ), Mychailowe ( Михайлове ) and Tscherneschtschyna ( Черне gehörenина ).
history
Kotelwa was first mentioned in writing in 1582. The settlement was built around a fortress built in the early seventeenth century to protect the territory of Sloboda-Ukraine from attacks by the Crimean and Nogai Tatars . On October 9, 1941, the village was occupied by Wehrmacht troops and liberated by Red Army troops on September 9, 1943 . Since 1971 Kotelwa has had the status of an urban-type settlement.

Personalities
The Ukrainian-Soviet partisan leader and Soviet major general Sydir Kowpak was born in the village in 1887 .
Rajon
Kotelwa is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name, founded in 1923. The Rajon Kotelva is located in the eastern part of Poltava , bordered to the north by the Sumy and to the east by the Kharkiv Oblast . It has 19,900 inhabitants and an area of 795 km². The population density is 25 inhabitants per km².
