The Marian cross is a special Latin cross in heraldry that is used as a heraldic image or as a heraldic figure in the heraldic shield or field . The cross is a Roman Catholic that is shifted to the right . Under the extended left arm of the cross, the letter M is floating as a capital letter . The general tinging is gold for the Marian Cross. There are also deviations in the representation. A cross is placed on the letter or the M is floating in front of the cross.

The letter "M" in the lower left quadrant stands for the Virgin Mary .

The cross found its place on the personal coat of arms of Pope John Paul II and also on medals due to an apparition of Mary.
