Tschornuchy ( Ukrainian Чорнухи ; Russian Чернухи Tschernuchi ) is an urban-type settlement in the central Ukrainian Poltava Oblast . It is the center of the Rajon of the same name . The village of Bohdaniwka ( Богданівка ) also belongs to the municipality .
history
Tschornuchy was first mentioned in a document in 1261 . Old traces of settlement are still preserved from this time. From the 16th century, the place belonged to the Polish noble family Wischnewski. In 1658 the Cossack hetman Iwan Wyhowsky was defeated in a battle near Tschornuchy. From 1803 the place belonged to the Lochwyza district , but today it is the center of its own Rajons. In 1972 the house of the parents of the Ukrainian philosopher Skovoroda was reconstructed in the place and a historical-ethnographic museum was set up there.
