The city lies on the banks of the Hlyna Orschyzja River and is named after the romantic writer Yevhen Hrebinka , who was born nearby . It is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name .

history

The city of Hrebinka owes its creation mainly to the fact that an important central Ukrainian railway junction was built here at the end of the 19th century . Before that, the village of Tin ( Ukrainian Тінь , Russian Тень ) had already existed, which initially gave the name to the settlement developing around the station. In 1901 the place got its current name. During the Russian Civil War , Hrebinka was fought over between the Army of the Ukrainian Republic and the Red Army . By 1939 the place had grown to 4,300 inhabitants.

After the Second World War , the population rose sharply, so that in 1959, when Hrebinka received city status on October 21 , there were already 10,650 inhabitants in the village. The population continued to grow until the 1970s and in 1979 there were 13,664 inhabitants in Hrebinka. In the 1980s, the city was already experiencing a slight decline. This trend has intensified since 1990.

traffic

Hrebinka lies at the intersection of the Kiev-Poltava-Kharkiv railway line with the Odessa - Cherkassy - Pryluky - Chernihiv - Belarus line . Via the territorial road T-17-09 there is a connection to the E 40 , which runs 15 km northwest of the city.
