history

Pryluky was first mentioned in 1092 as a fortress, which served to protect the Kievan Rus against the nomads from the southern steppes ( Pechenegs , Polovzians ). In 1239 the city was destroyed by the Mongols . In 1459 Pryluky was mentioned as a large city under Lithuanian sovereignty. In 1648 a Cossack regiment was organized here, which gave impetus to the rapid development of the city.

The city is a railway junction and an important tourist and industrial center of the oblast (mechanical engineering, oil production, construction industry, tobacco factory).

Until 1991, Pryluky was a base of the Soviet Air Force , on which 19 strategic nuclear weapon long - range Tu-160 bombers were stationed.
