Pryluky ( Ukrainian Прилуки ; Russian Russian Прилуки Priluki ) is a city in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Chernihiv with 56,000 inhabitants (2017). The city lies on the banks of the Udaj River and is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name.
history
Pryluky was first mentioned in 1092 as a fortress, which served to protect the Kievan Rus against the nomads from the southern steppes ( Pechenegs , Polovzians ). In 1239 the city was destroyed by the Mongols . In 1459 Pryluky was mentioned as a large city under Lithuanian sovereignty. In 1648 a Cossack regiment was organized here, which gave impetus to the rapid development of the city.
The city is a railway junction and an important tourist and industrial center of the oblast (mechanical engineering, oil production, construction industry, tobacco factory).
Until 1991, Pryluky was a base of the Soviet Air Force , on which 19 strategic nuclear weapon long - range Tu-160 bombers were stationed.
