Karl-Bernhard Schmitz

Karl-Bernhard Schmitz (born March 10, 1936 in Düsseldorf ) was a judge at the Federal Court of Justice from 1984 to 2001 .

After completing his legal training, Schmitz joined the judicial service of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1965 , where he initially worked at the Düsseldorf Regional Court and, after being appointed judge at the Higher Regional Court in 1974, at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . In 1983 Schmitz was promoted to presiding judge at the Higher Regional Court .

Schmitz was elected judge at the Federal Court of Justice in 1984 . In the first years of his activity at the BGH he belonged to the VI. Civil Senate, from 1987 to 1994 the IX. Civil Senate, since 1991 as its deputy chairman. With his appointment as presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice , the presidium of the BGH assigned him the chairmanship of the fourth civil senate, which he held until his retirement.
