Koriukivka ( Ukrainian Корюківка ; Russian Корюковка Korjukowka ) is a city in the Oblast Chernihiv the Ukraine and the center of the same name Rajons with 12,700 inhabitants (2019).

Administratively, in addition to the city, the municipality includes the 2 villages Lebiddja ( Лебіддя ) and Trudowyk ( Трудовик ). In Koryukivka, the T-25-36 territorial road meets the T-25-12 .

history

The settlement was founded in 1657 by settlers from right-bank Ukraine . Among them was the Cossack Korjuka , from whom the name of the village goes back.

In 1958 Koryukivka received city status.

Massacre and Destruction 1943

During the Second World War , on March 1 and 2, 1943, a mass murder of 6,700 civilians by Hungarian military police units occurred in the village as a counter-action against the activity of Soviet partisans headed by Oleksiy Fedorov , an officer of the NKVD of the USSR .

According to the historian Dmytro Vedeneev , based mainly on Soviet documents, namely the act of the Chernihiv Regional Commission on the Establishment and Investigation of the Crimes of Nazi German Occupiers in Koryukivka (December 17, 1943), the mass murder was carried out by the SS and the Ukrainians Protection team perpetrated. The number of perpetrators of this war crime is 300 to 500 people.

At the request of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory , the Federal Agency for Security of the Russian Federation announced the following with the official letter on the immediate perpetrator of the massacre: The shooting of civilians, the destruction of the villages and other war crimes on the territory of Chernihiv Oblast were carried out from October 1942 to Perpetrated on September 1st, 1943 by members of the Army of the Light Division 105 of the Hungarian Eastern Army Group according to the instructions of the Commander Lieutenant General Aldj-Papp Zoltan Johann (born in Budapest in 1895 ).
