Lyubetsch ( Ukrainian and Russian Любеч ; Polish Lubecz ) is an urban-type settlement on the banks of the Dnieper in the Ukrainian Oblast of Chernihiv with around 2500 inhabitants (as of 2005).
history
The city was first mentioned in writing in 882. In the times of the Kievan Rus , Lyubetsch was an important fortress and residence of the princes of Kiev and Chernihiv . In 1097 the Lyubetsch Prince's Day took place here.
