Bachmatsch ( Ukrainian and Russian Бахмач ) is a city and an important railway junction in the Ukrainian Chernihiv Oblast and the center of the raion of the same name with about 17,500 inhabitants.
history
The place Bachmatsch was first mentioned in 1781. The settlement received an important development impulse in the 1860s when it was connected to the railway network. In March 1918 there was fighting between advancing German units and troops of the Czechoslovak legions belonging to the French army . On October 15, 1938, the place was raised to city status.
Infrastructure and traffic
The city has four general secondary schools, one of which consists of an evening school, a local history museum, eight libraries, a central Rajon hospital, three polyclinics, a cultural club, a railroad workers' club and a student house.
Bachmatsch lies at the intersection of the Kursk - Kiev and Lyubaw - Romny railway lines . The place has two train stations: Bachmatsch-Kijiwskyj and Bachmatsch-Pasaschyrskyj. The city is connected to the Ukrainian road network via the territorial roads T-25-14 and T-25-23 . The village of Kurin borders southwest of the city .
