Alexander Shafranovich ( Hebrew אלכס שפרנוביץ '; * April 2, 1983 in Pryluky , Ukrainian SSR ) is an Israeli volleyball player .

Career

Shafranovich emigrated to Israel with his parents from Ukraine in 1994 . His father had competed in the 1976 Olympics as a 100-meter sprinter and Shafranovich began his sporting career in tennis before eventually switching to volleyball. From 2001 to 2004 he played in Israel, first with Maccabi Hod haScharon and then one season with Hapoel Hazor . In 2004, the German Bundesliga club VfB Friedrichshafen signed the captain of the Israeli national team and won the German championship and the DVV Cup with him . In the following two years Shafranovich played one season each in Greece for EA Patras and in Ukraine for Azovstal Mariupol . Then he went to France. There he won the French Cup in 2008 with Beauvais Oise UC and was back in the final two years later with Montpellier UC. In the 2010/11 season he was active in the Champions League with the Montenegrin club OK Budvanska Rivijera . After playing briefly for the Italian second division club CheBanca Milan , he returned to the Bundesliga in 2011 and signed with Generali Haching . With the national team he took part in the 2011 Universiade in Shenzhen . With the Hachingen team, he was German runner-up in 2012 and DVV cup winner in 2013 . Then Shafranovich moved back to France to Nantes Rezé Métropole Volley, with whom he took part in the 2013/14 CEV Cup . In 2014 Shafranovich moved to PAOK Thessaloniki , with whom he became Greek champion in 2015. He then went to Poland to Jastrzębski Węgiel .
