The Borschtschi – Kharkiv railway is a main line in Ukraine . It runs from Borschtschi , a railway station in southwest Ukraine, via Pidhorodna , Pomitschna , Kropywnyzkyj , Snamyanka , Korystiwka , Burty , Kremenchuk , Poltava , Kolomak and Lyubotyn to Kharkiv in northeast Ukraine. The electrified line is broad-gauge (1,520 mm), large parts of it two-lane and is operated between Borschtschi and Ohulzi with 25 kV alternating current, the rest of the route to Kharkiv with 3000 V direct current. The electrification between Kremenchuk and Poltava is not yet complete, here you have to drive with diesel. The operation of the line is guaranteed by the Ukrainian Railways , the section from Borschtschi to Korystiwka is carried out by the Odeska Salisnyzja , from Burty to Kharkiv by the Piwdenna Salisnyzja .

history

The line was first opened between Balta and Golta in 1867 by the Odessa-Balta Railway , and in 1868 the line was extended to Znamyanka. The further line from Snamyanka to Krjukiw was opened in 1869 by the Kharkov-Nikolaev railway , in 1870 the line between Kremenchuk and Poltava, then in 1871 to Kharkiv by the Kharkov-Kremenchug railway , and in 1872 the Dnepr bridge at Kremenchuk was opened the last missing section opened and the route made continuous.

In 1874 the Odessa-Balta Railway was merged with the Odessa Railway and was nationalized as the Russian Southwest Railways in 1895 , the Kharkov-Nikolayev Railway was nationalized in 1881 and merged with other companies to form the Russian Southern Railways in 1907 .
