The M 12 is a trunk road of international importance in Ukraine . It leads from Stryj in Lviv Oblast in an easterly direction via Ternopil , Khmelnyzkyj , Vinnytsia , Uman and Kropywnyzkyj to Snamyanka .
history
The stretch from Stryj to Tarnopol belonged to the Austrian Crown Land of Galicia until 1918 and was called the Brzeżanyer Reichsstraße . The Eastern Front of the First World War ran through this area .
The route between Tarnopol and Podwoloczyska was on the territory of the Second Polish Republic between 1918 and 1939 and was declared a state road ( droga państwowa ) by the Polish Road Act of December 10, 1920 .
During the Second World War , this road was to be extended as a thoroughfare IV to the Caucasus .
