Hajssyn (Ukrainian Гайсин ; Russian Gaissin , Polish Hajsyn ) is a city in Vinnytsia Oblast of Ukraine . It is located about 82 km southeast of Vinnytsia and is the administrative center of the Hajssyn Rajon of the same name . In addition to the city itself, the town council also includes the settlement Mlynky (Млинки), located northwest of the city.
The place was founded around 1600, received Magdeburg city charter in 1744 and initially belonged to Poland in the Bracław Voivodeship . In 1795 Hajssyn finally became part of the Russian Empire and was located in the Podolia Governorate . From 1975 to 1979 the "GDR construction site" on the Druzhba route was near the place . Since 1991 the city has been part of what is now Ukraine .
Personalities
The graphic artist and art professor Andrij Tschebykin was born in Hajssyn in 1946.
