Jampil (Ukrainian Ямпіль ; Russian Ямполь / Jampol , Polish Jampol ) is a city in Ukraine . It is the administrative center of Jampil Raion , located in the southern part of Vinnytsia Oblast on the Dniester in the historic Podolia region . The Dniester runs south of the town, on the opposite side of the river is the Republic of Moldova with the village of Cosăuţi . From there the road (M2) continues to the town of Soroca, ten kilometers away . A car ferry enables the official border crossing between the two cities.
From 1923 to 1999 there was a narrow-gauge railway line from a station east of the village to Wapnjarka , but this was discontinued and most of the track systems were dismantled in 2000.
