Kosjatyn ( Ukrainian Козятин ; Russian Казатин Kasatin , Polish Koziatyn ) is a city in the Ukrainian Oblast Vinnytsia with 23,574 inhabitants (as of 2019). It is an important railway junction and the city also has an important food industry (including meat and sausage products as well as beverage and bread production).

The urban-type Salisnytschne settlement also belongs to the municipality .

history

The first written mention of the place comes from the year 1734. In 1938 the place was raised to the rank of a town within the Koziatyn district and since July 13, 2000 the town has been under oblast administration.

The most important branch of industry in the city to this day is the railway: Kozyatyn is an important railway traffic junction, here the railway lines Kovel – Kozyatyn , Kiev – Shmerynka and Kozyatyn – Shaschkiv meet . The depot for wagons founded by the Waldajew brothers in 1871 also contributed to this . Significant quantities of cargo are transported from here . The share of the railway in the city's tax revenue was around 90% in 2003.
