Odessa Railway
The Odessa Railway (Ukrainian залізниця Одеська , Russian Одесская железная дорога / Odesskaja schelesnaja doroga ) was a railway company in the Russian Empire , on the territory of present-day Ukraine .
The beginnings of the company go back to the Odessa-Parkany Railway Company , which was founded in 1865 and existed until 1871, when it merged with the Kiev-Balta Railway into the Odessa-Balta Railway . This company existed until 1874 and was then combined with the Odessa Port Steam Railway and the Kischinewer Railways to form the Odessa Railway . In 1879 the merger with the Kiev-Brest Railway to form the Brest-Odessa Railway took place .
The Brest-Grajewoer Eisenbahn was added to this company in 1880 , and finally the company was renamed Russian Southwest Railways in 1882 through the takeover of the Bendery-Galatzer Railway , and the until then private company was finally nationalized in 1895.
The following routes were operated by the Odessa Railway / Brest-Odessa Railway:
- Odessa – Rasdelnaya – Birsula (opened on December 3, 1865 by the Odessa-Parkany Railway)
- Rasdelnaya – Kutschurgan – Tiraspol – Parkany – Bendery – Kischinau – Korneschty (opened from 1865 to 1873 by the Kischinau Railways)
- Balta – Golta – Snamenka (opened from 1867 to 1868 by the Kiev-Balta Railway)
- Balta – Birsula (opened in 1871 by the Kiev-Balta Railway)
- Ungeny-Jassy (opened in 1874 by the Odessa-Balta Railway)
- Korneschty – Ungeny (opened in 1875 by the Odessa-Balta Railway)
- Brest – Białystok – Grajewo (opened in 1873 by the Brest-Grajewo Railway)
- Bendery – Reni – Galatz (opened in 1877 by the Bendery-Galatzer Railway)
- Rowno – Sarny (opened in 1885)
