The Kharkiv – Horlivka railway is a main line in eastern Ukraine . It runs from Kharkiv in northeast Ukraine via Smijiw , Swjatohirsk , Lyman , Siversk and Bachmut to Horlivka in the Donets Basin. The double-track electrified line is wide-gauge (1,520 mm) and operated with 3000 V direct current. The operation of the line is guaranteed by the Ukrainian Railways , the section from Kharkiv to Bukyne it is carried out by the Piwdenna Salisnyzja , from Bukyne to Horlivka it is carried out by the Donetska Salisnyzja .
history
The line was initially opened between Kharkiv and Lyman (as part of the total line between Gotnja and Lyman) in 1910 by the North Donez Railway , and then officially opened in 1911. The extension of the line from Lyman to Siversk was then opened in the same year, in 1913 the extension to Mykytiwka followed, where it was possible to connect to the line of the Russian Southern Railways , which was opened in 1869 . In 1953, the North Donetsk Railway was incorporated into the Soviet Railways , after the end of the Soviet Union it was transferred to the Ukrzalisnyzja.
Since the summer of 2014, the rail traffic between Bachmut and Horliwka has been interrupted due to the war in Ukraine .
