Soledar ( Ukrainian and Russian Соледар ) is a city in the Ukrainian Donetsk Oblast with about 11,000 inhabitants (2014).

Soledar is located on the bank of the Bachmutka , an 88 km long tributary of the Siversky Donets and on the territorial road T-13-02 . The city, founded in 1909, belongs administratively to the urban district of the city of Bachmut, 16 km northeast, and received city status in 1965. The Soledar Salt Mine , a former, large salt mine, is located in the city; the Kharkiv – Horlivka railway with the Sil train station runs in the west of the city .

The city, which has had its city status since 1965, was named Karlo-Libknechtiwsk (Карло-Лібкнехтівськ) until 1991 . In 1999, the urban area was expanded to include the previously independent urban-type settlements Sil (Сіль, Soledar-3) and Drobitschtschja (Дворіччя).

Until September 8, 2016, the city was assigned to the municipality of Bachmut together with the city of Tschassiw Yar and was then assigned to the district administration of the Bachmut district .
