Swerdlowe (Ukrainian Свердлове - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Cholodne / Холодне; Russian Свердлово / Swerdlowo ) is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast with around 3,200 inhabitants.
geography
The urban-type settlement is located in the Donets Basin , about 15 kilometers east of the Donetsk Oblast Center and 7 kilometers east of the city center of Makiyivka , to whose urban district it belongs.
The place belongs to the settlement council of Proletarske (3 kilometers southeast), which administratively is assigned to the Stadtrajon Hirnyz within Makijiwka.
history
The place arose in the course of coal mining in the region, initially had the name Cholodna Balka (Холодна Балка) and was later renamed Swerdlowe (after the Soviet Russian politician, revolutionary and Bolshevik Jakow Swerdlow ). In 1964 Sverdlowe was given the status of an urban-type settlement, and since the summer of 2014 the place has been occupied by separatists from the Donetsk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
