Snischne ( Ukrainian Сніжне ; Russian Снежное Sneschnoje , German: "Schneeort") is a city of regional importance in eastern Ukraine and a center of coal mining and the food industry in the Donets Basin with around 47,000 inhabitants (2016).
history
Founded in 1784 by a Cossack general named Ivan Vasiliev, the place was named Wassyliwka (Василівка) in his honor until 1864 . Snischne has had the status of a town since 1938. From October 1941 to September 1943 the city was occupied by troops of the German Wehrmacht .
The city has been under the control of the internationally unrecognized Donetsk People's Republic since 2014 and, according to the Ukrainian government, belongs to an area in which the organs of state power temporarily do not exercise their powers.

Geographical location
Snizhne is located 75 km east of Donetsk Oblast center and 12 km east of Tores in the southeast of Donetsk Oblast on the border with Luhansk Oblast . The national trunk road N 21 runs past the city .
