Telmanowe ( Ukrainian Тельманове - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Бойківське Bojkiwske ; Russian Тельманово Telmanowo , German Ostheim ) is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast with 4400 inhabitants (2016).

geography

The settlement in the southern Donets Basin is the administrative headquarters of Rajon telmanove 67 km south of Oblastzentrum Donetsk and about 50 km northeast of Mariupol . The Kalmius River flows twelve kilometers west of the settlement. In addition to Telmanowe itself, the settlement community also includes the village of Sernowe (Ukrainian Зернове , formerly German Korntal ) with around 210 inhabitants.

history

The formerly German-speaking settlement of Ostheim is a subsidiary of the Swabian colony Neu-Hope (today part of Ossypenko near Berdjansk ). It was founded in 1878 on the settlement area of the Don Cossacks and settled by German-speaking Mennonites . The land, 2000 dessiatines , was initially leased by the landowner, the Cossack nobleman Krasnoschtschokow , and later bought for 45 rubles per dessiatin. In 1890 a post and telegraph station was built in the village, in 1903 a consumer association was founded, which existed until the Russian Civil War in 1919. The census of 1897 showed that there were 43 households with 358 inhabitants in the place, of which 273 were Germans and 85 Russians or Ukrainians. By 1917 the population rose to 450 residents. In 1929 the majority of the farmers were arrested as kulaks and exiled to Siberia, the local craftsmen were relocated to the neighboring Korntal (today Sernowe ). The Russian-Ukrainian residents of the neighboring communities moved into the vacant houses, and in 1934 the Rajon seat was moved here from Karan (now Hranitne ) to the west . The village bore the German name Ostheim (cyrillic with Остгейм) until 1935 and was then renamed Telmanowo / Telmanowe in honor of Ernst Thälmann .

On October 13, 1941, the place was conquered and occupied by Wehrmacht troops and liberated by the Red Army on September 9, 1943 . Telmanowe has been an urban-type settlement since 1971.

In the summer of 2014, the place was occupied by separatists who want to join the place of the Donetsk People's Republic .
