history
Due to the existing coal deposits and the proximity to today's Krasnoarmiysk train station, coal mining began in 1911 near the Novoekonomitschne ( Новоекономічне ) settlement . From 1916, the miners' settlement of Hrodiwskoho ( Гродівського ) developed in parallel 5 km south , which was called Novj Donbass ( Новый Донбасс ) from 1937 to 1957 . Then the place was renamed in honor of the Bulgarian politician Georgi Dimitrov (1882-1949) in Dymytrow (Ukrainian Димитров ; Russian Димитров Dimitrov ). In 1965 Dymytrov received city status. On March 6, 1972, the two settlements were combined, but Novoekonomitschne is now an independent urban-type settlement again . Since 1990 Dymytrow has the status of an independent city. Due to the decommunization in Ukraine , the city was renamed Myrnohrad with effect from May 22, 2016 .
During the Second World War , the city was occupied from October 22, 1941 to September 8, 1943 by Wehrmacht troops.
