Piwnitschne

Piwnitschne (Ukrainian Північне ; Russian Пивничное / Piwnitschnoje ) is an urban-type settlement in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine with about 10,000 inhabitants.

The settlement council community, which in turn is a part of the municipality of Torezk is, includes the urban-type settlement Kurdjumiwka and settlements Datschne (Дачне) Dylijiwka (Диліївка) Druzhba (Дружба) Osarjaniwka (Озарянівка) and Schumy (Шуми).

Piwnitschne located in the western Donbas about 5 kilometers east of the center of Torezk and 46 kilometers north of the Oblastzentrum Donetsk removed through the village which runs railway Poltava-Rostov .

The urban-type settlement emerged in the 18th century and was Північна Рудника / Piwnitschna Rudynka ("Northern Coal Mine") from 1896 , in 1936 it was named in honor of Sergei Mironowitsch Kirov , a Soviet party official, in Kirowe (Ukrainian Ківо / Kirowе; Russian) renamed. After the discovery of coal deposits from the end of the 19th century, the place developed into a mining site, in 1938 it was granted the status of an urban-type settlement.

In the course of the war in Ukraine , the place has been close to the front line to the areas controlled by the separatists since 2015. On May 19, 2016, the place was renamed to the name Piwnitschne in the course of the decommunization of Ukraine .
