history

The settlement was founded as a train station on the newly built Kursk - Kharkiv - Azov railway line in 1869 under the name Donetsko-Amwrossijewka / Donezko-Amwrossijiwka (Донецко-Амвросиевка / Донецьсиевка / Донециевка / Донециевко-Амвроete, the name of the village, which lies further north of the village. today Blahodatne ). The further development of the settlement was based on the mining of marl , the most important raw material for cement production , the rich deposits of which were discovered in 1836 on the banks of the Krynka River , a right tributary of the Mius . The first cement factory was built in 1896. On January 25, 1923, Amvrosiivka became a district center and on January 15, 1929, Amvrosiivka received urban-type settlement status . In 1938 the settlement was elevated to a city. From October 22, 1941 to August 23, 1943, the city was occupied by Wehrmacht troops, and in 1944 it was renamed to its current name. Since the summer of 2014, the city has been in the hands of the separatists of the Donetsk People's Republic during the war in Ukraine .
