Shakhtarsk ( Ukrainian Шахтарськ ; Russian Шахтёрск Shakhtarsk ) is a mining and industrial city of regional importance in eastern Ukraine with around 50,000 inhabitants (2014). Shakhtarsk is the administrative center of Shakhtarsk Raion , but not part of it itself.
history
The place was founded in 1764. Since the increased mining of coal in the area, the place grew into a town from the middle of the 19th century. Shakhtarsk has had this status since 1953.
The city has been under the control of the internationally unrecognized Donetsk People's Republic since 2014 and, according to the Ukrainian government, belongs to an area in which the organs of state power temporarily do not exercise their powers.
geography
The city is located in the Donets Basin in the Donetsk Oblast . The Oblastzentrum Donetsk is 49 km in the east and the city gate 19 kilometers west direction over the highway N21 to achieve.
City structure
The municipality has a total of 60,900 inhabitants (2013) and is divided into the city itself and the three settlement councils:
- Kontarne consists of the urban-type Kontarne and Moskowske settlements
- Serdyte consists of the urban type Serdyte and the settlements of Dubowe (Дубове) and Lobanivka (Лобанівка).
- Stischkiwske consisting of the urban-type settlement Stishkivske and the settlements Vinnytske (Вінницьке) and Tschumaky (Чумаки).
Furthermore, the 5 settlements Wiktorija (Вікторія), Hirne (Гірне), Dorofijenko (Дорофієнко), Sarichne (Зарічне) and Kyschtschenko (Кищенко) are directly subordinate to the city administration.
