Druhkivka ( Ukrainian Дружківка ; Russian Дружковка Druzhkovka ) is a city in the Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine with 59,000 inhabitants (2016).
geography
Geographical location
The city is located about 12 kilometers south of Kramatorsk and 72 kilometers north of the Oblast capital Donetsk . It belongs to the agglomeration of Kramatorsk and lies at the confluence of the rivers Kasennyj Torez (Казенний Торець) and Kryvyj Torez (Кривий Торець).
Borough
The municipality has a total of 70,286 inhabitants (2012). Besides Druzhkivka belong to the municipality and the urban-type settlements Nowohryhoriwka , Nowomykolajiwka , Oleksijewo-Druzhkivka and Rajske , the villages of Krasny Kut (Красний Кут) and Druschkiwske (Дружківське - 2016 Tscherwonosorjane / Червонозоряне) and the settlement Starorajske (Старорайське).
history
The place was founded by Tsarina Catherine the Great in 1781 and developed strongly after the construction of the Kursk – Kharkov – Azov railway in the 1890s. Through the settlement of various branches of industry, the place continued to grow under Soviet times and received city rights in 1938. In 1945 the Druzhivka tram , which is still in existence today, was opened with currently three lines (out of six).
