Kostjantyniwka ( Ukrainian Костянтинівка ; Russian Константиновка Konstantinowka ) is a city in Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine with 69,869 inhabitants (2019).
The place is the center of the Kostyantynivka Rajons of the same name and lies on the Kryvyi Torez River , a tributary of the Don . Kostjantyniwka is an industrial center in the Donets Basin , in which there are mainly metal, glass and chemical industries. The Donetsk Oblast Center is 68 kilometers away.
history
Kostjantinywka arose in 1870 from a small settlement founded by the landowner Nomikossow and named in honor of his eldest son Kostjantyn. At the beginning of the 20th century, the place developed into an industrial settlement , which in 1926 was elevated to the rank of urban-type settlement . In 1932 Kostyantyniwka received city rights. The city was occupied by the German Wehrmacht for 677 days . The occupation began on October 28, 1941 and ended on September 6, 1943 with the reconquest by the Red Army .
