Tores ( Ukrainian and Russian Торез - Ukrainian officially since May 12, 2016 Чистякове Tschystjakowe ) is an eastern Ukrainian industrial city in the Donetsk Oblast in the southern Donbass with 55,000 inhabitants (2017). It has been named after Maurice Thorez , the former leader of the French Communist Party , since 1964 .

In addition to the actual city, the municipality also consists of the 2 urban-type settlements Pelahijiwka and Rossypne and has a total of 81,918 inhabitants (July 1, 2012).

history

The city was founded in 1778 as a small settlement at the confluence of two smaller rivers by runaway serfs from different provinces of Russia . When the Sloboda (an old Russian form of community) Alexejewka was founded by General Leonov in 1800 , 225 people lived in the place.

The city has been a center of coal mining since the 1860s. Since the middle of the 19th century, the village was named Tschistjakowo ( Чистяково ) or Ukrainian Чистякове Tschystjakowe after the merchant Tschistjakow from Taganrog . In 1875 the Chistyakov Mining Company was founded. In the north of the city, the two mines Naklonnaya and Galeria still exist today , as well as the Nadja mine belonging to the Alexejewka Mining Company . 1909, approximately 77,000 tons (in the area around 4,700.000 Tschistjakowo Pud ) coal conveyed to 1916 the flow rate increased to 1,258,000 tonnes (78,800,000 Pud).

In 1924 there were 142 settlements with a total of 44,679 inhabitants in the mining area around Tschystjakowe. In 1932 the place was elevated to a city. In 1933, the merger took place from 10 mines to Trust Tschistjakowugol .

In the 1940s Tschystjakowe was divided into three (no longer existing) districts: Tscherwona Sirka ("Red Star"), Piwdenna Grupa ("Southern Group") and Stanzyja Tschystjakowe ("Station Area ").

In 1964, the city was renamed after the previous chairman of the French Communist Party, Maurice Thorez , who died in the same year .

During the war in Ukraine , the place has been occupied by separatists from the Donetsk People's Republic since summer 2014 .

The most important industry in the city is hard coal mining , which has been declining for years . The development of the population goes hand in hand with this economic decline.

MH17 crashed

During the war in Ukraine 2014/15 , the passenger plane of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crashed on the territory on July 17, 2014 . According to the current state of the investigation, it was accidentally shot down by Russian separatists with a Buk missile .

There is a well-developed public transport system in Tores. 31 lines are served by buses or regular taxis.

There are heavily frequented connections to Snizhne and Shakhtarsk . The highway from Donetsk to Luhansk runs through the city . Long-distance bus routes run from the central bus station to Donetsk, Kharkiv and other important cities in eastern Ukraine.

There are train connections from the three stations:
