Ellyes Joris Skhiri ( Arabic إلياس السخيري, DMG Ilyās as-Saḫīrī ; * May 10, 1995 in Lunel , Languedoc-Roussillon ) is a Tunisian soccer player who plays as a midfielder for 1. FC Cologne and the Tunisian national team.

Career

Skhiri comes from the youth of HSC Montpellier and played for its second team from 2012. He made his debut for the first team in Ligue 1 on March 21, 2015 in a 0-1 away defeat against FC Évian Thonon Gaillard on Matchday 30. He came on in the 90th minute for Paul Lasne . He played a total of 123 games in Ligue 1 for HSC Montpellier.

In the summer of 2019, Skhiri moved to the Bundesliga for 1. FC Cologne . He signed a contract that runs until 2023. In the 2-1 away win against SC Freiburg on matchday 3, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in stoppage time with the winning goal.

National team

Skhiri was born and raised in France to Tunisian parents. He was called up several times in the Tunisian U23 team.

He made his debut for the Tunisian senior team in a friendly against Iran on March 23, 2018 . He took part in the 2018 World Cup with the national team and was on the pitch in all three group matches. With the national team, he reached fourth place at the 2019 Africa Cup . He played all seven games of the tournament.
