Career
society
Bornauw began his club career - unusual for a European player - in the youth of the Moroccan first division club Wydad Casablanca , when his father was working there. After the family returned to his country of birth, the defender played for the youth teams of the national record champions RSC Anderlecht after a short stopover at FCV Dender EH . Bornauw made his professional debut at that club on June 28, 2018 in a 4-1 win against KV Kortrijk . In the current season Bornauw received a permanent place in the regular formation and was also regularly used at international level in the Europa League .
In August 2019 he moved to 1. FC Köln , with whom he signed a five-year contract. There he was regularly used in central defense and scored his first Bundesliga goal on the 8th matchday in a 3-0 win against SC Paderborn after a corner with a header.
National team
From the U15 onwards Bornauw was used in all of Belgium's junior national teams, with the high point of participation in the 2019 U21 European Championship .
Style of play
Bornauw is considered a strong defender with weaknesses on the ball, which can also be used on the outside lane. He is often compared to former Belgian international Daniel Van Buyten , who also acts as his advisor.
