Benno Schmitz (born November 17, 1994 in Munich ) is a German soccer player .
Career
societies
Schmitz's first football club was SV Waldperlach in Munich . In 2001 he moved to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich . At FC Bayern he completed all of his youth training and was promoted to the second team in 2013 by coach Erik ten Hag . With the amateurs he was champion of the Regionalliga Bayern , but then failed with them in the promotion round to the 3rd division at SC Fortuna Cologne . On April 19, 2014 (31st matchday) he took his first place on the substitute bench of the professionals under coach Pep Guardiola in the Bundesliga match against Eintracht Braunschweig , but was not used.
For the 2014/15 season he was signed by the Austrian Bundesliga club FC Red Bull Salzburg under the direction of sporting director Ralf Rangnick . On August 23, 2014 (5th matchday) he made his debut in a 5-0 victory in the league game against SCR Altach . In the second round of the ÖFB Cup , he jumped in for the injured Christian Schwegler in an 11-2 win at the Wiener Sportklub on September 24, 2014 and made his debut.
For the 2016/17 season he returned to Germany and joined the newly promoted Bundesliga club RB Leipzig , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2020. He made his Bundesliga debut on August 28, 2016 (1st matchday) in a 2-2 draw in the away game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim .
On May 24, 2018, 1. FC Köln signed Schmitz for the 2018/19 season and provided him with a contract that runs until June 30, 2022.

Benno Schmitz made his debut for the U-20 national team over 90 minutes on September 6, 2013 in Pfullendorf in a 2-0 win in the game against Poland .
