Timo Phil Horn (born May 12, 1993 in Cologne ) is a German soccer goalkeeper who plays for 1. FC Cologne .

Career

Horn began his career in the youth of SC Rondorf and in 2002 moved to the youth department of 1. FC Köln .

In the 2010/11 season he was part of the U-21 team of 1. FC Cologne for the first time . There he made his debut in the fourth-class Regionalliga West on August 23, 2010 (2nd matchday) against 1. FSV Mainz 05 II . In addition to assignments for the U-21s, Horn came on three other assignments in the A-youth (U-19) in the A-youth Bundesliga .

For the 2011/12 season he moved up to the professional squad of Cologne. At the beginning of the season he was the third goalkeeper in coach Ståle Solbakken's team behind Michael Rensing and Miro Varvodić . From the second half of the season he sat on the bench in the Bundesliga games without being used.

After the team's relegation and the departures of Rensing and Varvodić, the new sporting management under head coach Holger Stanislawski made Horn the new number one from the 2012/13 season . He made his professional debut in the 1-0 defeat on the 1st matchday of the 2012/13 season against Eintracht Braunschweig . After the promotion of FC at the end of the 2013/14 season , he was voted Player of the Season by 1. FC Köln fans. At the beginning of the 2014/2015 season, Horn was the first goalkeeper to score in his first four Bundesliga games without conceding a goal. On May 4, 2018, he extended his contract term in Cologne until 2023, despite relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga.

National team

Horn went through all German U-national teams starting with the U15 . From 2012 to 2014 he played under coach Frank Wormuth for the German U-20 team . In March 2013, Horn was appointed to the squad of the U-21 national team for the first time by Rainer Adrion after Kevin Trapp's injury for the international match against Israel . He was in the squad for the 2013 U-21 European Championship in Israel .

On July 15, 2016, he was appointed to the squad for the Olympic football tournament in Rio de Janeiro . He was named player of the game in the opening game against Mexico. Timo Horn won the silver medal with the German team after losing in the final against Brazil on penalties. On November 1, 2016, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf as a medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics .
