The A-Juniors Bundesliga (also A-Youth Bundesliga or U19 league ) is the highest German league for U19 - soccer teams . It was founded in 2003 and is divided into the North / Northeast, South / Southwest and West squadrons, each with 14 teams. At the end of the season, their three season winners and one of the three runners-up will play off the German A youth champions , who have qualified for the UEFA Youth League since the 2014/15 season .

The A-Juniors regional leagues were the forerunners of the A-Juniors Bundesliga . In the summer of 2003, the regional leagues north and north-east as well as south and south-west were merged into Bundesliga relays. The Regionalliga West remained unchanged and was only upgraded.

Graduation

Teams from the North German and Northeast German Football Associations play in the North / Northeast relay . The regional leagues North and Northeast are subordinate to the Bundesliga season. The champions of these two regional leagues are promoted directly. The runners-up play the third promoted team in the first and second leg.

Teams from the South German and South West German Football Associations play in the South / Southwest relay . The upper leagues of Hesse and Baden-Württemberg, the Regionalliga Südwest and the Bayernliga are subordinate to the Bundesliga relay. The champions of the Bayernliga and Oberliga Baden-Württemberg are promoted directly to the Bundesliga. The champions of the Regionalliga Südwest and Oberliga Hessen determine the third promoted player in the first and second leg.

Teams from the West German Football Association play in the West season . The Bundesliga relay is subordinated to the Westphalia, Lower Rhine and Middle Rhine leagues, the champions of which are promoted to the Bundesliga.

mode

Each team plays twice against all other teams of its relay; once at your own place and once away. A win is rewarded with three, a draw with one point. The last three teams placed in the relays at the end of the season are relegated.

The semi-finals of the final round will be played in the first and second leg, the final in one game. Until the 2007/08 season , the three season winners and the runner-up of the season south played for the German championship in this final round. Since the beginning of the 2008/09 season, however, it is no longer the runner-up of the southern season that qualifies automatically, but the runner-up of the season that had the most successful participants in the final round in three previous seasons. To determine this, a performance table is created in which three points are awarded for the German championship, two points for participation in the final and one point each for the two losing semi-finalists. In relation to the relay, which has two participants, only the points of the best placed are counted. If two seasons have the same number of points, the result of the previous season decides.

The performance table for the 2020 championship is calculated from the results of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 game years:

year North / Northeast South / southwest west
2017 1 2 3
2018 3 1 2
2019 1 2 3
All in all 5 5 8th

The West season would have provided two representatives for the 2020 finals, which did not take place.
