Regional Football League (youth)
The regional football league is the second highest for male A and B youth and the highest division for male C youth.
Regionalliga male A-Juniors
In 1987 the North German Football Association was the first regional association to introduce a regional league. The other regional associations did not follow suit until 1996 (the northeast already a year before), when the DFB decided to introduce five regional leagues as the top division in the male A youth division. In 2003, the three-track A-Juniors Bundesliga was introduced. With this step, the regional league seasons West and South were dissolved. The other three seasons will continue, but now as the second highest division.

Regionalliga male C-Juniors
First, in 2004, the North German Football Association introduced the regional league for the male C youth. From the 2006/07 season onwards, the West German Football Association also ran a regional league, which emerged from the U-15 junior cup that had been held since 2000, in which the C youth teams of the men's Bundesliga clubs and those amateur clubs whose A- and B-youth played in the federal or regional league. As the third regional association, the Southwest German Regional Association finally introduced a regional league in this age group for the 2009/10 season. In the same game year, the Central German Regional League was set up, in which the clubs of the Northeast German Regional Association take part, with the exception of the teams from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin - but Hertha BSC took part in the game as a visiting team and became the first Central German champions. The South German Regional Association founded a regional league for the 2010/11 season. In 2015, the Central German Regionalliga will be replaced by a Regionalliga Nordost. Two years later, Bavaria received its own regional league.
