Marcel Sobottka (born April 25, 1994 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German football player who is used in the defensive midfield or as a central defender .

Club career

Beginnings

Sobottka worked for VfB Kirchhellen from 1999 to 2000 . In 2000 he went to the youth department of FC Schalke 04 . After ten years he switched to SG Wattenscheid 09 due to lack of prospects . After a year he moved on to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen .

FC Schalke 04

In 2012 he returned to the Knappenschmiede of FC Schalke 04 . At Schalke U-19, Sobottka was in defensive midfield and scored five goals in 25 appearances in the 2012/13 season and prepared another. For the 2013/14 season he was considered for the U-23 squad, Schalke 04's second team. He also became an important person in the Regionalliga West. Sobottka traveled with four other junior players with the professionals to the training camp in Doha . On January 26, 2014, the 18th matchday, he was in the Schalke team for the first time in the game against Hamburger SV , but was not used. Because of personnel concerns, he was also in the professional squad from the 26th to the 28th matchday. Also in the 2014/15 season Sobottka was more often in the professional squad, but was also without a mission. In the second team, he made 14 games and scored his first goal for Schalke on May 2, 2015 in the game against the amateurs of VfL Bochum .

Fortuna Dusseldorf

In July 2015, Sobottka moved to the second division Fortuna Düsseldorf . There he received a contract that ran until 2018 and the number 31 on his shirt. For the first time, he played for the second Fortuna team in a 3-0 win against Borussia Dortmund's second team. He made his professional debut on August 22, 2015 in the game against SC Freiburg , when he came on for Julian Koch in the 45th minute . He made his first game in the DFB-Pokal on October 27, 2015 when he lost 1: 5 in the second round against 1. FC Nürnberg . In the course of the 2015/16 season Sobottka came to a total of 15 second division games. In the first round of the DFB-Pokal 2016/17 he scored two goals in a 3-0 win against Hansa Rostock . After Schalke 04 failed to exercise a buyback option, he signed a five-year contract with Fortuna on June 20, 2017.

National team

As an A-youth Sobottka was nominated for the German U-19 national team , but was not used. On September 6, 2013 he made his debut for the German U-20s when he came on in the 46th minute of the game against Poland.
